What is a hasp for?

Each person working on the locked-out equipment should personally place a lock on each energy isolation point. When more than one person is working on the equipment, hasps are used so multiple locks can be attached to the same lockout device.

Kinds of hasps:

Hasps are made out of a variety of materials, including:

  • Aluminum -- Durable; strong; resistant to ultraviolet rays, chemicals, and high temperatures.
  • Steel -- Durable; tensile; resistant to high temperatures and corrosive materials.
  • Nylon -- Insulated from accidental electrical surges or residual power seepage.
  • Plastic -- Lightweight; non-sparking.
