Group Lock Boxes

󰅂

What is a group lock box (or gang box) for?

A group lock box allows many employees to work on the same lockout job without having to personally attach a lock to each point of energy isolation. Instead, a designated employee is put in charge of locking out each energy isolation point. Then keys for those locks are put into a group lock box and the box is "locked out" by each employee working on the job, so that the keys cannot be accessed until every employee has removed their personal lock. Lock boxes reduce the number of locks and hasps required for a job and make it easy to see who is still working on the equipment.

Group lock boxes may be portable or mounted to a wall. They are typically made out of either metal or plastic. Some have a "window" so that they keys can be seen inside and some do not.
