What is a electrical plug lockout device for?

An electrical plug connects a piece of equipment or machinery to a power source (e.g. a wall outlet). The equipment must be unplugged from the power source before maintenance work can be done and the plug must be isolated and locked out to prevent unexpected reenergization.

There are 3 common options:

• Enclose the plug end in a cover/box and lock it shut.
• Insert the plug prongs into a receptacle device that can be locked out.
• Install a device into the equipment's power receptacle that prevents a plug from being inserted.
