Personal Protective Equipment

󰅂

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn by employees to protect them from hazards in their work environment. PPE includes anything from gloves to full body suits with self-contained breathing apparatuses. Although lockout/tagout should eliminate the risk of a machine unexpectedly starting or releasing energy, there may be other hazards that employees will need protection from while shutting down and servicing equipment. For example, there may be dangerous cutting arms that could injure a worker who bumped into them while working.

When doing a job hazard analysis to create lockout/tagout procedures, the Qualified Person must address what kinds of PPE will be required for each job.
